Bhaja Govindam

Bhaja Govindam is a call from the Infinite. It is a short and powerful devotional text that indicates the fundamentals of the Vedanta philosophy. Composed by Adi Sankaracharya and his disciples, these 31 simple, loving, direct verses fearlessly analyse and deconstruct many of the unexamined assumptions we live our lives by. It courageously dissolves the shell of thoughtlessness veiling the glory of all that it means to be a human being.

Adi Sankaracharya is among the greatest revolutionary thinkers of all time. He renewed, uplifted and restored Vaidika culture to its true greatness. He was not only the founder of a great philosophical movement (Advaita Vedanta) but also a compassionate teacher, a tireless missionary and a brilliant poet & writer who could convey complex and profound truths in words of elegant simplicity.

Bhaja Govindam is one of Adi Sankaracharya’s most beautiful works, composed in clear and effective language that has stood the test of time. It is a popular hymn that is an essential part of the Sankara canon. This will be a discussion-based class open to all CSK ages, however, some previous Vedantic study and sādhanā will be helpful. This class is especially geared to those who are continuing or want to refresh their existing study and practice.

We will be reading from Swami Chinmayananda’s commentary which can be found at the Chinmaya UK bookshop or on Amazon.
