We will be learning Chapter 5 of the Bhagavad Gita titled “karma-sannyäsa-yoga” or “The Yoga of Renunciation”. The competition will be held on Saturday, 29th March, 2025 at Chinmaya Kirti, 2 Egerton Gardens, London NW4 4BA

Chapter 5 of the Bhagavad Gita, titled “The Yoga of Renunciation,” emphasises the importance of doing our duties diligently, which leads to renunciation of worldly desires. It teaches that lasting happiness comes from detaching oneself from the fruits of action while maintaining inner peace through devotion and wisdom.

1. Is this event open to people in all countries?

The event is open to those living in the UK or Europe. If you live outside UK/Europe, please visit your local Chinmaya Mission centre for details of similar events happening in your area

  1. How will participants learn the verses / meaning?

Children attending Balavihar will learn chanting as part of the class. For those unable to attend in-person BV classes, we offer weekly online Gita chanting lessons. In addition, if you would like to learn on your own, please access audio and text version on this page 

  1. What are the benefits of chanting?

Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda, conducted over 500 Gita Jnana Yagnas. By participating, children and adults gain the precious opportunity to carry forward His work as well as creating a positive vibration within themselves and the environment around. Chanting offers several benefits. A few are listed below:

  1. Develops pure saṁskaras (impressions) and helps purify the mind
  2. Chanting vibrations produce a positive impact on the individual and the family
  3. Inspires children to explore the meaning of the teachings in our scriptures
  4. Provides exposure to the Sanskrit language and promotes a sense of cultural identity
  5. Strengthens memory and equips us for meditation e.g. ability to sit erect with minimal physical movements, the ability to collect our thoughts and focus our mind
  6. Will the competition be held in person?

Yes. The competition will be held on 29th March, 2025 at Chinmaya Mission’s UK centre in Hendon. If you live outside the UK, please let us know and we will make alternate arrangements 

  1. What are the evaluation criteria for the competition? 

Scoring will be based on the below criteria:

  1. What are the registration charges for the Gita Chanting Competition?

There are no charges for all children attending Shishu Vihar, Bala Vihar and Jr. Chyk classes. For all other participants, registration is £30
