CMUK raises funds for the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal

Chinmaya Mission UK has raised over £11,000 from a week of fundraising activities with all funds donated to the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal. The money raised will fund grants to help NHS charities support NHS staff, volunteers and patients in ways above and beyond what NHS funding can ordinarily provide.

To support our NHS heroes during this COVID-19 crisis, Chinmaya Mission UK held a wide variety of events, all delivered online

Brahmacharini Shripriya Chaitanya (Resident Teacher, Chinmaya Mission UK) presented a series of four daily talks in English, entitled “Shelter in Prayer”, exploring the power of prayer. The talks were well-attended with hundreds of people watching each day and learning why, to whom and how we should pray.

Over 1,000 people enjoyed a beautiful evening of devotional music with performances from accomplished musicians, Himanshu Nanda, Renu Gidoomal, Sanjeev and Karuna Loomba and Prabhat Rao.

Appealing to those missing the gyms, there was an intensive yoga session where participants carried out 108 “surya namaskar” (a series of twelve poses saluting the sun). Having focused on the physical body in the morning, a meditation event was run in the afternoon inviting attendees to pay attention to their minds. Aptly titled, “How to go inside, when you can’t go outside”, the session was led by Dr Ramesh Pattni, OBE. The week of events concluded with a fun-filled, fancy dress children’s quiz which was appreciated by the children and their parents alike!
