Chinmaya Mission UK was blessed with the presence of Swami Swaroopananda during his annual visit to London from 26 February – 10 March 2015.
The main focus of Swamiji’s visit was his seven evening talks on the topic of One God, Many Forms from 2 – 8 March, during which Swamiji spoke about seven key deities worshipped in Hindu culture. On each day, Swamiji narrated captivating stories about the deity of the day, explained the deeper significance behind the well-known symbolism and distinct attributes associated with that deity, and imparted practical knowledge on how a seeker can imbibe these qualities in order to enrich their life. Swamiji, in his signature concise, witty yet profound manner, elucidated that the numerous forms of the Divine are different expressions of One God.
Swamiji’s morning talks on Adi Shankaracharya’s Nirvana Shatkam from 5 – 8 March reinforced the teachings from his evening talks and beautifully concluded that each of us is indeed the eternal bliss (chidananda rupa shivoham shivoham).
Swamiji also held two events for 18-35 year-olds, the first of which was a one-day workshop entitled An Enquiry Into Peace on 27 February, during which attendees discovered that true, selfless love for a higher ideal brings harmony, peace and perfection in one’s actions. This was followed by a two-day retreat named The Pursuit of Happiness, based on Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi’s Upadesa Sara, from 28 February – 1 March, at which delegates learned about the four paths to happiness, karma, gyana, bhakti and raja yoga, through Swamiji’s lectures, group discussions, team activities, meditation and reflection.
Finally, the UK premiere of On A Quest, took place in the presence of Swamiji on 9 March. This touching biopic of Swami Chinmayananda beautifully captured the essence and magic of our selfless Guru and left its audience in sheer awe of a master who, through his steadfast quest for the Truth, logical enquiry and ardent study of the Vedas, found the answers to life’s most widely-posed questions and delivered these to the masses in a succinct and articulate yet profound and poetic manner.
