Sanskrit classes

Why Sanskrit?

Sanskrit is the world’s oldest language and the source of many Eastern and Western languages. Nearly all Indian languages are derived from Sanskrit, thus it forms the cultural backbone of India.

Learning this profoundly logical and precise language enables students to appreciate the deeper meaning of Indian Scriptures, such as the Bhagavad Geeta and the Upanishads. In fact, an understanding of Indic philosophy and religious thought would be incomplete without the study of Sanskrit.

Sanskrit at Chinmaya Mission UK

Sanskrit classes at Chinmaya Kirti in Hendon enable students to translate and interpret the scriptures in their original language of Sanskrit independently. This leads to greater appreciation of the beauty, precision and depth of this ancient and perfect language. There are classes available to students of all levels of study

The Sanskrit language, whatever be its antiquity, is of a wonderful structure; more perfect than Greek, more copious than Latin, and more exquisitely refined than either, yet bearing to both of them a stronger affinity, both in the roots of verbs and the forms of grammar, than could possibly have been produced by accident; so strong indeed, that no philologer could examine them all, without believing them to have sprung from some common source. – Sir William Jones, British Philologist, 1786
