Sadhana 10 – Read, read, read!
When we act with the attitude of dedication and receive with the attitude of gratitude, our love for the Higher begins to take root. Love directed towards the Higher with reverence is devotion.
We are now advised to make this devotion firm, so that it may continue to inspire us and support us, ultimately leading us to the Supreme.
What?
Have an altar and every day give 10 minutes exclusively to God.
Why?
When we love something or someone, we want to know more about them. When we learn more about them, our love increases. By devotion, our desire to know increases; by knowledge, our devotion grows.
We build any relationship by giving time; if we do the same with God, we can make our relationship strong. We may remember God at various times during the day, when we need help or give thanks. However, to make it a lasting relationship, we must dedicate some exclusive time to God.
If our love for God is based on favourable experiences in life, we will soon fall out of love because everyone faces some hardships in life. Understanding that we are the recipients of God’s grace even when things seem difficult will allow our devotion to grow.
How?
Keep an altar in your home or bedroom; every day, spend 10 minutes there.
You may choose to perform some worship, chant or sing some prayers, or simply converse with God. Whatever you do, it should be only for God, without any other gain or result in mind. Spend time there for the sake of spending time with God; spend time because God is your greatest well-wisher. We may begin and end many relationships in life, but our relationship with God is constant.
